Newport Mental Health is partnering with the Edward King House to bring more mental health programs to older adults in the Newport and surrounding area.
The alliance, which was recently formed, will begin with a series of educational workshops in hopes of opening conversations about mental health among older generations.
“Newport has the highest number of older adults in the state and just like the national statistics for all age groups, about one in five older adults has a mental health disorder. It’s sad because they are often too embarrassed to say anything about it,” said Carmela Geer, Edward King House executive director.
