Newport Mental Health has been officially licensed by the Rhode Island Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) to provide Mobile Response and Stabilization Services (MRSS), expanding access to timely, community-based behavioral health crisis care for children, youth, and families across Rhode Island.
The state licensure recognizes Newport Mental Health’s ability to deliver high-quality, evidence-based mobile crisis services as Rhode Island continues to strengthen its children’s behavioral health system. DCYF licenses three MRSS providers to ensure quality, accountability, and consistent access to these critical services statewide. Tides Family Services and Family Service of Rhode Island (FSRI) are the additional providers.
Mobile Response and Stabilization Services (MRSS) provides 24/7 in-person behavioral health crisis support for children, youth, and families. Trained clinicians respond wherever a crisis occurs—at home, at school, or in the community—to provide immediate assessment, stabilization, and connections to ongoing care. This family-centered approach helps children remain safely at home, avoid unnecessary emergency department visits or hospitalization, and stay connected to the schools and communities where they feel safe.

Newport Mental Health’s MRSS clinicians have completed specialized training through the University of Connecticut’s Innovations Institute, a nationally recognized program and one of the country’s leading approaches to community-based crisis response for children and families.
